In the South of Jordan lies the width and beauty of the Wadi Rum, a magic scenery of sand and rock giants in countless yellow and red shadings. The Wadi Rum is one of the most varied desert sceneries on earth. The bottoms of the valleys are 800 to 1000 metres above sea level, the sandstone rocks additionally loom above this height up to around 750 metres.

In the course of many geologic ages rock formations were created, pushed into or on top of each other, whose pedestals are made of granite and the peaks of sandstone. At the transition of the two kinds of rocks you can find several springs, since only the soft sandstone is pervious to water.

Over and over again drawings and inscriptions can be identified in the rocks.

The Bedouins live, in the meantime, as half nomads or have settled down. In winter they live in firm houses in desert villages, during the summer months they walk with their herds through the desert in search of pastures and sleep in tents.

To those who have watched the movie “Lawrence of Arabia”, this fantastic scenery will seem well-known, because here T.E. Lawrence really lived some time and the area was the authentic place of this movie.

In the course of the time wind and sand have formed the sandstone – gorges, rock bridges and -bows were created. Gigantic sandstone massives, run through by dunes, lend the scenery of this desert a wonderful and unique atmosphere.

The big Rock Bridge at the Jebel Umm Froth, the Barrah Canyon, the Lawrence House, the 7 Pillars of Wisdom and the Burdah Rock Bridge are only some of the numerous sights of the Wadi Rum.

Most intensively you experience the impressions of the desert by foot or on the back of the camels or horses. But by 4×4 jeep is also a lot of fun and you will see a lot in a short time.

Being carried softly rocking, forgetting the time, feeling free, reaching a wonderful inner rest – in the infinite width of the Wadi Rum you will find all this.

The deep blue sky, sand and rocks – shining in yellow, orange and deep-red in the light of the setting sun, camels moving along at the horizon and an endless silence round off the picture of this overwhelming scenery.
